The Potato: Dinner's Best Friend

Potatoes are the best friends of hearty comfort food everywhere. Boiled, fried, or mashed, we love to eat them alongside filling stews, underneath runny eggs, and even on their own with sour cream or even apple sauce. One of our favorite preparations is rösti—the Swiss version of what we may know as potato pancakes or hash browns. Grated, then fried until crisp, it’s an incredibly tasty and versatile treat on its own as a snack or appetizer, or alongside an elegant main dish.

Step 2/5

  • 400 peeled potatoes
  • mixing bowl
  • grater

Roughly grate potatoes.

Step 3/5

  • 1 tsp grated nutmeg
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 tbsp starch

Season grated potatoes with nutmeg, salt and pepper. Add stark and mix well.

Step 4/5

  • vegetable oil for frying
  • frying pan

Heat large pan with vegetable oil.

Step 5/5

Form potato mixture into approx. 8cm rounds. Fry rounds on medium high heat for approx. 4 - 5 min. on each side. Then, place them on paper towels to drain any excess fat. Enjoy!
